Introduction
Letter to the Voters
Re-Elect Bob Meffley, Council Member District 1
Dear Voters,
It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Cecil County. I am 100% committed to improving the lives of Cecil County residents and planning for future generations to live and enjoy the treasure that is Cecil County Maryland.
Eight years ago, when a friend suggested I run for Cecil County Council, I grabbed that idea and ran with it. I continue to have the same level of enthusiasm for this work. My commitment goes beyond a weekly meeting, I field calls and letters 24/7 from concerned citizens and neighbors that need answers. I strive to respond in person and I listen and let your opinions and needs temper my decisions at Council. I strongly believe you elect individuals who agree with your core beliefs. I also strongly believe that elected individuals must vote on issues that reflect the needs of their citizens.
For instance, if the residents of Cecil County want schools that turn out educated leaders and productive members of society then we must fund them to a level that produces an informed and capable citizen.
If you want a strong, vibrant economy then you must plan for it. Infrastructure must be put in place to support smart growth along the Route 40 corridor.
If you understand that generations of farming families have toiled to protect Cecil County farmland while earning a living from it, then you support land preservation. As a good friend of mine once said, “Remember, they are not making anymore of it {land}!”
Cecil County has so much to offer. I love this county and its people. I have lived here for most of my life. Born in Ohio, my family and I moved here when my dad took a teaching position at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center. I grew up in Perryville and then moved to Chesapeake City. I still attend high school reunions and see many of my old friends. (Don’t believe all their stories.) I studied at Cecil College and spent three years in the US Army.
My mom was an English teacher and my dad became a principal, both working for Cecil County Public Schools. I was not the world’s best student; and did not enjoy reading.. I learned better when I was active, working with my hands, and talking to people. I continue to be a man of action. My wife calls me the, Man of a Million projects. I am constantly problem solving to make things work better!
This drive led me to start my own mechanical business over forty years ago. H & B Plumbing and Heating, which is now run by my son, daughter, and son-in-law. I still go in to handle unique jobs or to clean up the warehouse. I don’t ever see myself sitting at home in the lazy-boy.
I have eight years of experience as your councilman. I am also up to speed on all current issues. I have met citizens, county employees, and legislators. I know how to work with people to reach agreement and succeed and know the steps our government must take to create a Cecil County for the future. A vote for Bob Meffley is a vote to “Get the job done!” I am ready and willing to be Cecil Counties’ “Man of Action”
Thank you for your consideration to re-elect in 2024.
